dlink di 514 doesn’t work with vista
Customer had a dlink di-514 wireless router, but he couldn’t get his vista laptop to connect to it (yet his other xp laptop connected just fine).
I take a look at the dlink website, and it seems that the di-514 is no longer supported. The last firmware available is about 1 week newer than the one in the 514 I’m looking at.
I decide to give it a go (download and install the firmware … V1.03B2). It installs without a hitch, but still no vista connectivity (I tried a few reboots and check that the vista network settings are correct (I needed to change some settings, as the customer had changed a few (in his attempts to get it working).
In the end, the only option was to use a more recent dlink di-524. Once I had it installed, configured, and secured the wireless link, vista detected it immediately, and everything worked flawlessly.
Disable bridge mode using an xp machine, it will then work in vista.
Hi CW,
Good suggestion.
At the time, I didn’t think to look at bridge mode. In fact I’ve not needed to look into router bridge modes for a long while… it usually just hangs together without much need to change settings.
And me being in a hurry at the time didn’t help 🙁
