Brother ControlCenter3 (CC3): more problems
It wasn’t long ago (about 6 months) that I fixed a problem with a Brother multi-function device, where CC3 had gone haywire, and suddenly decided to use outlook express as the default email client for the scan-to-email feature.
Well, here I am, back at the same customer, this the same problem: scan to email doesn’t work.
This time, the customer had just installed Microsoft Office 2010, so I had a good idea where to start looking for a solution.
When the scan to email function was run, the PC (CC3) would generate the error:
cc3-003-00031c0e
The internet had very few answers to this problem, and most centred around re-installing MS Paint!
Well, MS Paint was correctly installed, and unlikely to be the cause.
So I went into the CC3 configuration for the scan to email, and found that it was pointing to the original Office Outlook executable file… Hmmm CC3 wasn’t smart enough to figure out that office had been upgraded.
So I figure the answer should simple, point CC3 to the new Outlook executable, and everything should work fine…
Nope.
A “scan to email” now generates: Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. The command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using.
OK, now what?
I figure another update to CC3 might fix the problem.
These “manual” updates to CC3 are getting very tedious. It would be nice if CC3 would automatically update.
The current version of CC3 is V3.5.9.12. The latest version is V3.10.0.0
Hmmm, 5 minor revision updates in 6 months… it make me wonder about the reliability of CC3.
Anyway, after I install the latest CC3, I then need to change the CC3 configuration (again), but this time CC3 has a “predefined” entry for Outlook 2010, so I activate it.
Now it all works correctly again, but at some (ongoing) cost to the non-technical owner of the brother MFC!
The frequent revisions is due to the fact that the device is a multi-function equipment.
A single-function equipment has less revisions.
My current job has one of these troublemakers – thanks for the walkthrough, you probably saved me hours of nonsense!
I had the same problem. It appeared after changing some settings in outlook 2010 (running on Windows7 64 bit). I simply went to the “Configuration” button in Control Center 3. Then, scan > e-mail. There I put in the file path for Outlook.exe on my machine. Shizam! It works 🙂
I have the same problem but even with the newest software (version V3.10.0.0)it continues.
i have the predefenition for outlook 201, it was already selected but it still won’t work.
any thoughts on this?
How do i download the latest software to fix the problem – where do I get V3.10.0.0 from as I have the same problems having uploaded Office 2010 to my machine
Cheers
After 4 hours trying to solve this issue… I did! This download, referred to abov,e is described by brother as applying to Outlook 2003/7 only.. but it worked for Outlook 2010 for me. After unzipping it updates CC3 and Outlook 2010 is then listed as an option for email scanning.

Mike,
You saved me – this was the answer I needed. Outlook 2010 now working! Yippee!!!!
Thanks so much!
Elke
Elke- you are very welcome- I’m pleased that I thought to post my solution here!
Thank you so much for the download link!
However, I wasn’t able to get this to work for Outlook 2010 x64 bit.
On the disc, the default installer would just let you install the 32bit version even if the 64bit is also available on the disc.
If you choose to install the 64bit version you have to go to the 64bit folder and run the appropriate installer.
Anyway, does anyone else have this issue with Outlook 64bit and ControlCenter3?
Thanks!
Yes, problem here with CC3, Outlook 2010 64bit on Windows 7 62bit. Brother support have just told me that their software is NOT compatible with the 64bit version of Office 2010 and washed their hands of it!
@Bob when you say “It appeared after changing some settings in outlook 2010 (running on Windows7 64 bit).” what settings did you change in Outlook 2010?
I had a similar problem with a Brother DCP-J125 the printer didn´t scan images, and put a message: ControlCenter3 ‘An unexpected error occured. Please restart your computer, then try again. (cc3-003-00031c0e). I read in google an article that gave me the solution:
in Control center 3 in configuration, I went to Scan+ Image and 2 spaces were in white, without information, and I put the correct information in that places. In the first place I select White board, and in the other I select jpg and I did the same in the other tab “Dispositive Boton”, and the problem disappear
My brother recommended I might like this blog. He was totally
right. This post truly made my day. You can not imagine just how much time I had spent for this information!
Thanks!
